Tubular Worlds requires a fast Macintosh (at least a 68020 CPU or PowerPC) and System 7. To use the action sounds (Sound FX) you must have Sound Manager 3.0 or higher installed (if you did not receive it with your Hardware System Update 3.0 please ask your Apple dealer for it). If an older Sound Manager is installed you will receive an error message any time you try to activate the action sounds (i.e. using "æF"). Otherwise this has no effect on the game play.

With these new machines you may find that the mouse reaction is too sensitive, making the space ship difficult to control. To change this, call up the control panel "mouse" and set the mouse speed to "very slow".

Menu Options
Tubular Worlds requires enormous computing power, especially for drawing the screen. Playing the game on a slow processor will result in jerky motions on screen. For best results use a PowerMacintosh or a 68040 CPU. If your Mac does not provide that kind of speed, there are a few parameters you may change to achieve acceptable game speed:
Maximum Speed! should be selected in the game menu to ensure that Tubular Worlds will give you the best performance on the machine you are using. If you have several color monitors installed on one machine you should install the Tubular Worlds window on each one of them and check which gives you the greatest game speed.
Double Window Size should not be used on slow computers.
Black Screen should be used around the game window, it just looks better.
Background Tasks: These should be deactivated in order to make the game faster. As a result, your computer will not receive network messages during the gaming session. Powerbooks will not power down the harddrive when this option is selected. These effects will end as soon as you quit the gaming session.
Sound FX and Music: Sound output of any kind negatively effects the game speed. Turn sounds off if you don't need them. If you want some sound during play, we suggest that you keep the music on and turn the Sound FX off. The "When Idle" function ensures that the music is played only when you are not playing the game. Press æ7 and take a tea or coffee break.
